Une équipe d'experts de la "Science For Africa Foundation" a effectué une visite à l'Institut Pasteur de Tunis après l'acceptation de son Certificat du "Grant Award" pour accueillir le “African Leishmaniases Consortium” (ALC).
Suite à l'accord historique du Certificat d'Acceptation de la Subvention pour le soutien et l'inauguration du "African Leishmaniases Consortium" (ALC) signé par le Pr. Hechmi Louzir, Directeur Général de l'Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT), une délégation de la Science For Africa Foundation (SFA ; https://scienceforafrica.foundation/our-focus) a effectué une visite de deux jours (22-23 juin 2023) à l'IPT afin de soutenir la mise en œuvre du programme ALC. Au cours de la visite, les représentants de la SFA ont échangé avec les différents départements de l'IPT et le secrétariat bilingue de l'ALC (basé à Tunis et Ibadan, Nigéria) sur les progrès réalisés dans la mise en place des structures de gouvernance et de gestion nécessaires, ainsi que sur l'examen des systèmes de gestion financière liés à la subvention, entre autres.
L'IPT a rempli avec succès tous les critères de diligence requise d'une institution leader pour accueillir la subvention DELTAS Africa attribuée au Pr. Ikram Guizani en tant que Directeur de l'ALC. L'ALC est l'un des quatorze (14) consortiums d'institutions de recherche provenant de pays Africains sélectionnés de manière compétitive pour recevoir des subventions dans le cadre de la deuxième phase du programme DELTAS Africa, DELTAS Africa II. Le soutien financier, qui s'étendra de 2023 à 2027, est mis en œuvre et géré par la Science For Africa Foundation (SFA) avec le soutien financier de Wellcome et du Ministère britannique du Développement International et du Commonwealth (FCDO). L'Institut Pasteur de Tunis est la première institution d'Afrique du Nord à diriger des institutions partenaires bénéficiant d'un financement dans le cadre du programme DELTAS Africa.
Il dirigera un consortium panafricain regroupant sept institutions d'Afrique du Nord, de l'Ouest et de l'Est, ainsi qu'une en sfa 2Espagne. Pendant les 4 années du projet, le consortium se concentrera sur les Leishmanioses afin de développer un paradigme de contrôle et d'élimination des maladies négligées en Afrique. Le programme DELTAS Africa soutient des consortiums alignés sur quatre domaines stratégiques : qualité scientifique, leadership en recherche, gestion de la recherche, culture et infrastructure, citoyenneté scientifique.
Ce programme vise à soutenir des consortiums collaboratifs de scientifiques et de Leaders Africains pour renforcer la recherche scientifique en Afrique. Il est important de signaler que DELTAS Africa est conçu pour soutenir le renforcement des capacités des futurs leaders de la recherche. Ces leaders mèneront une recherche en santé de haute qualité et pertinente au niveau local, qui aura un impact positif sur la science, la politique et la pratique en Afrique et qui sera reconnue au niveau mondial.
A team of experts from the Science for Africa Foundation conducted a visit to Institut Pasteur de Tunis upon its acceptance ofthe Grant Award Certificate to host the "African Leishmaniases Consortium" (ALC)
Upon historic agreement of the Grant Acceptance Certificate for support and inauguration of the "African Leishmaniases Consortium" (ALC) signed by Pr. Hechmi Louzir, the Director General of Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT), a delegation from the Science For Africa Foundation (SFA; https://scienceforafrica.foundation/our-focus) conducted a two-day site visit (22-23 June, 2023) to the IPT to support the ALC program implementation. During the visit, the SFA representatives exchanged with the different departments of the IPT and the bilingual secretariat of ALC (set in Tunis & Ibadan, Nigeria) about the progress made in setting up necessary governance and management structures and reviewed the grant-related financial managements systems and policies among other matters.
The IPT has successfully met all the due diligence criteria required of a lead institution to host the DELTAS Africa grant awarded to Pr. Ikram Guizani as Director of the ALC. The ALC is one of the fourteen (14) Consortia of research institutions from countries in Africa competitively selected to receive grant awards on the second phase of the DELTAS Africa program, DELTAS Africa II. The support that will run from 2023 to 2027 is implemented and managed by the Science For Africa Foundation (SFA) with funding support from Wellcome and the UK Foreign Common wealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The Institut Pasteur de Tunis is the first North African institution to lead partner institutions with successful funding from the DELTAS Africa program. It will lead a pan-African consortium that gathers seven institutions in North, West and East Africa and one in Spain. During the 4 years of the project, the consortium will focus on Leishmaniases to develop a paradigm for control and elimination of neglected diseases in Africa. The DELTAS Africa program supports consortia aligned to four strategic areas: scientific quality; research leadership; research management, culture & infrastructure; scientific citizenship.This program aims to support collaborative consortia of Africa- based scientists and leaders to scale up Africa scientific research.
Importantly, DELTAS Africa is designed to support capacity building for future Research Leaders who will drive locally relevant and high-quality health research that will bring positive impacts to science, policy, and practice in Africa with global recognition.
