La fondation « Wellcome Trust » a annoncé le démarrage des 7 projets sélectionnées pour le programme de R&D sur les envenimations ophidiennes « Snakebites grants ».
L'Institut Pasteur de Tunis a été retenue comme Principal Investigateur d'une proposition visant le développement d'antivenins de nouvelles générations pour lutter contre les morsures mortelles de Cobras, qui sévissent en Afrique et au Moyen-Orient. Ces pathologies environnementales sont considérées par l'OMS comme des maladies négligées et font l'objet d'un programme visant à réduire de 50% la morbidité et la mortalité, en 2030.
Sur une durée de 3 ans, l'équipe NanoBioMedika de Pr. Balkiss Bouhaouala-Zahar, Laboratoire Biomolécules, Venins et Applications Théranostiques, Institut Pasteur de Tunis œuvrera en étroite collaboration avec un consortium de partenaires de l'Institut des régions Arides (IRA) de Médenine, l'Institut Pasteur de Paris (IP), l'Institut Pasteur d'Algérie (IPA) et l'Institut Pasteur d'Iran (IPI), formés de chercheurs reconnus pour leurs expertises complémentaires en venimologie, toxinologie et immunothérapie.
Le projet COBRA-NGaV fournira la preuve de concept (PoC) de nouveaux antivenins candidats avec des performances capables surmonter le double obstacle de la faible immunogénicité et la diffusion rapide des toxines et des propriétés fonctionnelles et structurales améliorées.
Le kick-off aura du 11 au 13 janvier 2022 à l'IRA Medenine.
cobra WTThe "Wellcome Trust" foundation announced the launching of the 7 projects selected for the R&D program on ophidian envenoming "Snakebites grants". The Institut Pasteur in Tunis has been selected as the Principal Investigator of a proposal aiming the development of new generation antivenoms to combat the deadly cobra bites, which are widespread in Africa and the Middle East. These environmental pathologies are considered by WHO to be neglected diseases and are the subject of a program targeting at reducing morbidity and mortality by 50%, before 2030.
Over a period of 3 years, the NanoBioMedika team of Pr. Balkiss Bouhaouala-Zahar, Biomolecules, Venins and Theranostic Applications Laboratory, Institut Pasteur de Tunis will work in close collaboration with a consortium of partners from the Institute of Arid Regions (IRA) of Medenine, the Institut Pasteur de Paris (IP), the Institut Pasteur d'Algérie (IPA) and the Institut Pasteur d'Iran (IPI), and researchers recognized for their complementary expertises in venimology, toxinology and immunotherapy.
The COBRA-NGaV project will provide with the proof-of-concept (PoC) of new antivenom candidates to address the dual obstacle of toxins' weak immunogenicity and fast diffusion, with improved functional and structural properties.
The kick-off will be held on January, 11-13, 2022, at IRA Medenine.
